This study aimed to examine the effectiveness of dictation EFL listening exercises for first-year English major students at Hanoi Pedagogical University 2. To achieve the goals of the study, the study addressed three research questions: Research question 1: What are the difficulties in listening skills of first-year English major students at HPU2? Research question 2: What are students’ attitudes towards the usage of dictation in doing listening exercises? Research question 3: Do first-year English major students at HPU2 enhance their bottom-up listening skills by practicing dictation listening exercises? In addition, the researcher uses an intervention study along with data collection tools such as Survey Questionnaire, Pre- and Post-Test, and Interview.
